This is a very straightforward free-motion design book. There isn't anything to read, not even any ideas about how the book could be used. It is physically smaller that most books (6" x 9") and it has 159 pages.Motifs range from simplistic swirls and leaves to a few multi-pass designs. My favorite are the setting triangle motifs, although they could also be used for cornerstones.For many of the designs you could either simply draw out the design to practice it or place a piece of thin paper over the design in the book to practice doodling the design.The only problem I had with the book was that the setting triangle motifs are across two pages which means that the peak of the design is behind the spiral binding.I find the book excellent as an idea book and will use it as a spring board for creating and combining quilting motifs.
I had great hopes for this publication since coming up with a fresh design for borders is often a challenge for me. I wish the editors took more care in selecting/including the designs in this book. Many designs are repeated or highly similar. For example, a wishbone design is presented in loose and dense formats, a leafy vine, likewise. Each of the setting triangle designs are located with the center straddling the wire coil spine making it next to impossible to discern each of the stitching lines in the pattern and tracing is not possible. Only the free hand drawn designs give the reader an opportunity to actually discern how to stitch the design - no directional arrows, nor begin/end indicators are provided. Very disappointed!
